IBS or Abdominal Pain

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is also known as spastic colon or mucous colitis. It is one of the most common gut problems encountered by gastroenterologists. IBS is called a “syndrome” instead of an illness because medical science is not sure what causes it. It seems to be due to abnormal gut movements. They are, however, aware of common triggers, which often include: stress, food intolerance, and digestive enzyme insufficiency.

The most common symptoms are right or left-sided abdominal pain, indigestion, and diarrhoea (may be painless and usually in the morning) or constipation, occurring alone or in alternation. The abdominal pain often occurs in attacks and may be provoked by food and relieved by bowel movements. Stools may be pellet or ribbon-like, with or without mucous. Other symptoms include swelling of the abdomen, audible rumbling and excessive wind.

The syndrome can occur in anyone, but are most frequent in women between the ages of 20 and 40.For more information on IBS, please click here to read our article about it.

Treating IBS

Although there are drugs available to suppress or manage symptoms, conventional medicine has no treatment for IBS. Drugs to help control the symptoms include laxatives (for constipation), antispasmodic drugs (for cramps), analgesics (for pain), anti-diarrhoea drugs, or antidepressants to relieve anxiety and stress brought about as a result of the condition.

At The Centre For Integrated Health, we’ve discovered that the underlying “cause” of IBS isn’t always food tolerances, but often parasites, Candida, viruses or bacteria. These are often the result of poor diets or eating habits.

We’ve also found that lymphatic drainage can be quite helpful, as can Yucca, digestive enzymes, and probiotic therapy.

Case Study

Having suffered from IBS ever since her teen years, Mrs. “B” discovered The Centre For Integrated Health and made her first visit aged 60. For over 40 years, she experienced severe digestive problems: she typically experienced eight urgent bowel movements a day, she had developed the feeling of depression and lethargy; and she could not eat anything. The impact that the condition had on her personal and professional life is indescribable – she was absolutely housebound. She had resigned herself to this way of life, but had recently become a grandmother so was keen to see if we could help.

When she came in to The Centre, Mrs. “B” had a non-invasive full system scan to find the root of the problem. Once the problem areas had been identified, her practitioner put together a holistic programme to ensure Mrs. “B” avoided aggravating factors and provided her system with what it needed to become strong and healthy. And the results? As Mrs. “B” stated: “I can’t believe how much better I am”. And she’s not the only one benefiting; her husband told us “I feel like I have my best friend back again!”

Mrs. “B” now lives a normal and unrestricted life. Her bowels function normally; her depression is gone; and she is able to sleep the whole night through. She has also experienced improvements elsewhere: her skin, hair and nails have improved in appearance.

Mrs. “B” now states that she is 100% better and is taking regular holidays with her husband and her grandchild.

As you can see from Mrs. “B”’s situation, many people suffer with IBS for decades. This is quite dangerous, since so many nutrients are lost and undigested; they leave the system long before the body can make good use of them. Dehydration can also result. We understand how frustrating and limiting IBS can be. Contact us today to learn more about how our screening and treatment methods can help you live an IBS-free life!
