Cystitis

Cystitis is an inflammation of the urinary bladder. The condition can effect women and men of all age groups, but is more common in women. Females are more prone to the development of cystitis because of their relatively shorter urethra — bacteria do not have to travel as far to enter the bladder. Once bacteria enter the bladder, they are normally removed through urination. When bacteria multiply faster than they are removed by urination, infection results.

Symptoms include pressure in the lower pelvis, painful/frequent/urgent (sometime with no actual need) urination, abnormal urine color or smell, and possibly blood in the urine (hematuria). Blood in the urine can be a symptom of other serious diseases, so if you experience that, seek immediate attention.

Cystitis can be caused by a numer of different factors. Commonly, it’s associated with sexual activity; but it can also be caused by obstruction of the bladder or urethra, lack of adequate fluids, hygene factors, insertion of instruments into the urinary tract (such as catheterization or cystoscopy), pregnancy, diabetes, and a history of analgesic nephropathy or reflux nephropathy. A common cause in men is incomplete emptying of the bladder associated with such conditions as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), prostatitis and urethral strictures. For the elderly, common causes are bowel incontinence, immobility or decreased mobility and placement in a nursing home.

Treating Cystitis

Chronic or recurrent cystitis should be treated thoroughly because it can lead to kidney infection. Antibiotics are largely used to control bacterial infection. We do not approve of this. Cystitis can be avoided by frequent urination, keeping clean, and making the urine either more acidic or more alkaline (with drinks or foods).

Cranberry juice can help clear an infection naturally as it contains condensed tannins, Manoose – D and proanthocyanidins which have been found to inhibit the activity of E. coli by preventing the bacteria from sticking to mucosal surfaces lining the bladder and gut, helping to clear bacteria from the urinary tract.

Waterfall D-Mannose is extremely effective when used regularly to keep cystitis away AS WELL AS when used in higher doses to clear infections.
